Internship Opportunities

From Physics to Health: Putting back together what nature never took apart

The seapration of disciplines is artificall. Molecular biology and physiological concepts need to follow the laws of physics just as much as the orbits of the planets. In the medical and biological physics group we therefore apply phyiscal laws to translate biological pictures into physical concepts.

πŸš€ What we do
We work in both theory and experiment from cell cultures to smaller organisms to understand communciation between cells and its realtion to growth. What is the state optimal for communciation and what are the triggers, which lead to perutbations cancer and other disease.

IKIM: From Code to Clinic – Where AI Meets Medicine

At the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM), we don't just crunch numbers β€” we turn algorithms into innovations at the point of care. Our mission? "We treat patients, not data." From developing cutting-edge machine learning models to optimizing hospital workflows, we apply AI where it truly matters: in real-world healthcare.

πŸš€ What we do
We harness real-world medical data and high-performance computing to tackle Biomedical Computer Vision, Computational Pathology, Clinical NLP, Medical Informatics, Medical Physics, and AR/VR applications. We even push AI beyond the hospital β€” collaborating on sports medicine projects with a German major league soccer club (BVB).

DDHD: The Drug Discovery Hub Dortmund

At DDHD, we transform basic research into pharmaceutical applications with a strong emphasis on precision oncology.

πŸš€ What we do
We collaborate closely with clinical oncologists, focusing on chemical biology, protein X-ray crystallography, and medicinal chemistry. Our aim is to develop inhibitors and functional probes targeting cancer-relevant proteins.
